My fabric designs are for sale!

A couple of weeks ago I created an account @ spoonflower.com. If you didn’t know about Spoonflower: it is a fabric printing company who delivers worldwide with very low delivery costs. But what really matters is that anyone can design his own fabric, and get it printed by them. Oh, and you can sell your own designs too!

So that is what I am doing now. Today I received my test swatched, so now I know the fabric, printing and designs are of very good quality, and I am happy to share them. Let me know If you have special requests but don/t know how to design yourself, maybe I can design a pattern for you.

At the moment I am selling the design you see in the pictures; in red, blue and yellow. It is based on the font Bodoni, it is secretly a typographic pattern! Be aware the colour on your screen might differ from the real colour if your screen is not calibrated.

You can order the designs here: http://www.spoonflower.com/profiles/flis , where you can also take a look at my other designs of which i haven’t received the test swatches yet, as well as many beautiful designs from others.

Chinese Typography

Currently I am working on a business card design for a client who will be traveling from the Netherlands to China. He wishes to present himself using a business card which holds his contact details in both western as well as Chinese typography. We agreed it would be extra interesting if we found a way to make the design in that way it represents my client as some kind of bridge or connection between the Netherlands and China.

I am researching Chinese typography at the moment, as well as thinking about the possible elements of the design.

Below are two pictures my client sent me as inspirational images. I often ask my clients to give me any pictures or other clues that inspire them. This does not imply I will use the image, but it helps me get the feeling right in order to be able to create a design my client and his focus group will likely feel good about. And when both the client as well as the focus group feel good about the design I reached my goal.

I have no clue where the images came from, and therefore am not able to link to the source. If anyone knows who holds the rights, please let me know so I can give them credit.

If any of you have experience with Chinese characters, Chinese typography or Chinese symbolics, please let me know. The internet tells me a lot, but I’d like to check some things before I’ll release the card.
